Why Tiga Negeri is Special
Batik Tiga Negeri (“Three Regions Batik”) is one of Indonesia’s most prestigious batik traditions. Historically, a single cloth was dyed across three renowned batik-producing regions, each contributing its signature color:
Red from Lasem
Blue from Pekalongan
Sogan brown from Solo
This collaborative production process required extraordinary skill, precision, and coordination, making each piece exceptionally rare and highly collectible.
Craftsmanship
The cloth is meticulously hand-drawn using the traditional batik tulis technique on premium Primissima cotton, one of the finest cotton fabrics traditionally used for high-quality Indonesian batik. Every line is created with a canting and hot wax (malam), followed by multiple stages of dyeing and wax removal. Depending on the complexity of the design, producing a single textile could take several months to complete.
